Colonial Latin American Review (CLAR) is a unique interdisciplinary journal devoted to the study of the colonial period in Latin America. The journal was created in 1992, in response to the growing scholarly interest in colonial themes related to the Quincentenary.CLAR offers a critical forum where scholars can exchange ideas, revise traditional areas of inquiry and chart new directions of research. With the conviction that this dialogue will enrich the emerging field of Latin American colonial studies, CLAR offers a variety of scholarly approaches and formats, including articles, debates, review-essays and book reviews. These contributions not only reflect the latest research on different aspects of colonial Latin America, but also point to new critical directions shared by art, history, anthropology, literature and other disciplines.The journal is also committed to fostering an international network of colonial scholars and invites contributions in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Comparative Legal History is an international and comparative review of law and history.

Articles will explore both 'internal' legal history (doctrinal and disciplinary developments in the law) and 'external' legal history (legal ideas and institutions in wider contexts). Rooted in the complexity of the various Western legal traditions worldwide, the journal will also investigate other laws and customs from around the globe. Comparisons may be either temporal or geographical and both legal and other law-like normative traditions will be considered. Scholarship on comparative and trans-national historiography, including trans-disciplinary approaches, is particularly welcome.

Contemporanea promotes the exchange among scholars from different generations; a constant interaction with international scholarship; an ongoing dialogue between professional historians and practitioners, teachers and students. Its pages are devoted to a free discussion on research, as well as education and teaching, methods and sources, as well as current issues. Based on a thorough peer-review procedure, Contemporanea presents the results of original and innovative researches carried out by Italian and foreign scholars on political, social and cultural issues of Italian, European, and international history from the late XVIII century to the present. Tackling key historical arguments and problems, through a #!#!written#!#! conversation among Italian and foreign scholars in a constant exchange between history and social sciences, the journal is a crucial source of information on the most significant tendencies and topics of the international historical debate. On top of this Contemporanea introduces the reader to unpublished sources and documents with critical and philological introductions by experts of the related fields, and carries critical re-appraisals of historical classics or major works from the past, as well as of the most notable outcomes of the current historical production.

Contemporary British History offers innovative new research on any aspect of British history - foreign, Commonwealth, political, social, cultural or economic - dealing with the period since the First World War. The editors welcome work which involves cross-disciplinary insights, as the journal seeks to reflect the work of all those interested in the recent past in Britain, whatever their subject specialism. Work which places contemporary Britain within a comparative (whether historical or international) context is also encouraged. An established journal of reference inviting all critical approaches on the latest debates and issues in the field, Contemporary French & Francophone Studies (formerly known as SITES) provides a forum not only for academics, but for novelists, poets, artists, journalists, and filmmakers as well. In addition to its focus on French and Francophone studies, one of the journal' primary objectives is to reflect the interdisciplinary direction taken by the field and by the humanities and the arts in general.Contemporary French & Francophone Studies is published five times per year, with four issues devoted to particular themes, and a fifth issue, "The Open Issue" welcoming non-thematic contributions. Each of the five issue features contributors from across the disciplines, with 5 to 10 % of a given issue in French, and the remaining contents either in English or in bilingual form.The objective of Contemporary French and Francophone Studies is to reflect the enormous vitality and variety displayed by those engaged in the field of French Studies. Editorial policy is designed to foster controversy in a field which is already in significant ideological ferment. Contemporary Jewry serves as the single source for the social scientific consideration of world Jewry, its institutions, trends, character, and concerns. In its pages can be found work by leading scholars and important new researchers from North America, Europe, Australasia and Israel. While much relevant scholarship about Jewry is published in general social science journals, as well as more narrowly focused periodicals, no single scholarly journal focuses primarily on the social scientific study of Jewry.Over 500 articles have been published in Contemporary Jewry since its inception. Each issue includes original research articles across a variety of social-science disciplines, including anthropology, demography, economics, education, ethnography, social history, politics, population, social psychology, and sociology.  We are open to submissions of shorter research notes, and, on occasion, will publish important work that had originally appeared in Hebrew or other languages. Special issues have focused on such topics as the National Jewish Population Survey, Jewish community surveys, Ultra-Orthodox Jews, Women in the Holocaust, economic frameworks for understanding Jewry, and Jewry in Israel. Individual articles have treated a range of topics, from Jewish identity in Syria and the Ukraine to New Zealand and Israel: from an analysis of rabbis’ salaries to a historical study of Jewish women physicians in Central Europe: from survey research to ethnography to historical analysis.Each year Contemporary Jewry includes the Marshall Sklare Award lecture, delivered at the Association of Jewish Studies conference in co-sponsorship with the Association for the Social Scientific Study of Jewry, the founding association of the journal, by distinguished scholars chosen to receive the award because of their contributions to the field of the social scientific study of Jewry. Reflecting the objectives of the Academy of Social Sciences, it emphasises the publication of work that engages with issues of major public interest and concern across the world, and highlights the implications of that work for policy and professional practice. Contributions are welcome in any appropriate form, including critical essays, reviews of significant topics, qualitative or quantitative empirical studies, including case studies and large-scale statistical analyses. Well documented examples of social science in action, composite reviews of sets of books and other publications are also welcome. Papers will not normally be more than 5,000 to 6,000 words. Whilst the submission of individual papers is encouraged, proposals for special issues on relevant themes that incorporate contributions from a variety of social sciences will also be carefully considered. All contributions will be blind, peer reviewed to determine both academic excellence and the accessibility of the material to non-specialists in social sciences other than the authors'. All papers should include some indication of the implications for policy and/or practice. Critical Military Studies

Aims & Scope

Critical Military Studies provides a rigorous, innovative platform for interdisciplinary debate on the operation of military power. It encourages the interrogation and destabilization of often taken-for-granted categories related to the military, militarism and militarization. It especially welcomes original thinking on contradictions and tensions central to the ways in which military institutions and military power work, how such tensions are reproduced within different societies and geopolitical arenas, and within and beyond academic discourse. Contributions on experiences of militarization among groups and individuals, and in hitherto underexplored, perhaps even seemingly ‘non-military’ settings are also encouraged. All submitted manuscripts are subject to initial appraisal by the Editor, and, if found suitable for further consideration, to double-blind peer review by independent, anonymous expert referees. The Journal also includes a non-peer reviewed section, Encounters, showcasing multidisciplinary forms of critique such as film and photography, and engaging with policy debates and activism.
